Dear Bobcat Families, It is with great pride and gratitude that I welcome you to a new school year. As I reflect on my first year as principal, I am incredibly thankful for the partnership, trust, and support of our students, staff, and families. Together, as “One Heartbeat,” we have built a strong foundation, keeping us grounded and I am excited for all that lies ahead. This past year, we focused on strengthening our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to ensure that every student receives the targeted support they need to master grade-level standards. Our teachers have worked collaboratively to analyze student learning, adjust instruction, and provide timely interventions and enrichment so that all students can succeed. We also made meaningful strides in building essential academic skills. Through the use of the Accelerated Reader (AR) program and Typing.com, our students developed both their reading comprehension and keyboarding skills—two critical tools for success in today’s learning environment. One of the highlights of our year was our first-ever 5th Grade College and Career Day. This event was a tremendous success and provided our students with a powerful glimpse into their futures. Students explored careers aligned to their personality types, translated their current grades with a real Eisenhower counselor into high school graduation requirements, and reflected on whether they would be on track for graduation if they were seniors today. Additionally, our students had the opportunity to engage with guest speakers, including an entrepreneur and a UCLA graduate student who is also an Eisenhower High School graduate. To conclude the experience, each student signed an Eisenhower graduation gown, making a personal commitment to persevere through middle school and high school and achieve their goal of graduating. We are also excited about the progress we are making toward becoming a Community School. With the support of our Community Schools Specialist, we are already seeing positive impacts across our campus. Programs like “Ride the Wave” are helping us strengthen connections, support student well-being, and build a stronger sense of community at Bemis. Looking ahead, I am thrilled to share that we will officially become a full K–5 Dual Language Immersion (DLI) school this year. This is an exciting milestone for our community, and we are committed to providing all students with the opportunity to develop bilingualism, biliteracy, and cultural competence. Thank you for your continued partnership and trust.
